In 2018, GM BluePlan was contracted to do the bridge and culvert inspections in Brant and Greenock. A 'Bridge Review Report' was submitted for each structure. The Riverdale Bridge, which was reportedly constructed in the early 1900’s, replacing the bridge that was previously built, has been recommended for closure, removal and/or replacement since 2014 and had repair work completed in 2003 and 2012. These repairs included several steel truss members, steel stringers and braces, the ballast wall and the timber deck.

The Municipal Engineers Association (MEA), in cooperation with the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP), has developed a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) process to assist in planning projects of this nature.

The EA planning process develops a Project Statement, considers alternative solutions, and documents the public consultation process toward the selection by Council of a Preferred Solution to the Project Statement in a Project File. Public consultation is the final step in the EA process.

On May 10, 2022, Council approved a tender in the amount of $2,634,178.31 including HST, not including additional Engineering Fees, Tree Removal, Survey work, and other administrative costs that will need to be added to the overall project costs. Construction is expected to begin Summer 2022.
